Free Skin Cancer Screening—May 11

May is National Melanoma/Skin Cancer Prevention month. It’s vital that skin cancers are detected and treated as early as possible. Dermatology and Surgery of Southern Ohio is offering a free skin cancer screening on Wednesday, May 11 from 3-5 p.m. at its West Chester office. No appointment is necessary. First Annual Corporate Food Fight

Put down that spoonful of mashed potatoes—this is no ordinary food fight! Join the 2016 Corporate Food Fight to fight hunger in our community. Local companies of similar size compete against each other to make the most food donations and be crowned as Food Fight Champions. The goal of this food drive is to restock the summer shelves at Reach Out Lakota. All local companies are invited to collect money and non-perishable food items to compete or become an event sponsor. Deadline to sign up is May 27. Register Now for Heel to Heal Race—June 11

Online registration is now open for the fourth annual Heel to Heal 5K or 10K Run/Walk on June 11. Heel to Heal was developed as a fun and healthy way to broaden the awareness of Healing Touch energy therapy. Participants can sign up for a free 15-minute Healing Touch session pre- and post-race. This dog-friendly event also offers Healing Touch for Animals. This is one of the area’s few 10K races and is conveniently located at the scenic Voice of America Park. The top three overall winners for the male and female 5K and 10K walk and run categories will all receive a certificate for a free one-hour massage from Elements Massage. Other race details include chip timing, a high-quality technical shirt, stretch yoga, massage therapy, healthy snacks, face painting and more. Youth of the Year Announced by The Boys & Girls Club of West Chester/Liberty

Cierra McCarthy was named as the first ever Youth of the Year for Boys & Girls Club of West Chester/Liberty (BGCA). The Youth of the Year program honors our nation’s most awe-inspiring young people on their path to great futures and encourages all kids to lead, succeed and inspire. 11-year old McCarthy is recognized by BGCA for her leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to live a healthy lifestyle. In the Club, McCarthy participates in Torch Club, Fashion, Science Club and History. Outside of the BGCA, she enjoys horseback riding, gymnastics, dance and Girl Scouts. McCarthy has also done community service at a local animal shelter. American Cancer Society Relay for Life at Lakota East High School

Lakota East High School is once again sponsoring an American Cancer Society Relay for Life on Friday, May 13 through the early morning hours of Saturday, May 14. Over the last four years, Lakota East students have raised over $120,000 with this fundraiser. This year, 1 in 5 students, approximately 600, are expected to participate. Under the guidance of senior student and Chair, Rose Middleton, and Rich Bryant and Craig Ulland, staff of the Lakota East High School Athletic Department, Relay for Life of Lakota East High School is projected to raise over $60,000 this year.
