February 2017 Around Town

New Developments at Streets
of West Chester

Northern Cincinnati’s premier “eatertainment” district at the Streets of West Chester recently broke ground for several new restaurants and stores near Topgolf and Main Event. Chuy’s Tex-Mex restaurant was the first tenant to commit to the new project. Chuy’s will build a freestanding restaurant which will mark its fourth location in the region.

Two additional restaurants adding more flavor to the new development include Matt the Miller’s Tavern and Holtman’s Donuts. New-to-market Matt the Miller’s Tavern is an upscale casual restaurant featuring a chef-driven menu and constantly rotating inventory of craft, draft and local beer. Next to Matt the Miller’s Tavern will be Holtman’s Donuts, which has built a cult-like following in recent years. The donut shop will feature their renowned specialty donuts. Rounding out the new development is Duluth Trading Company, a rapidly growing lifestyle brand for men and women who lead a hands-on lifestyle. OnsiteRetailGroup.com

Ohio Board of Education
Honors Lakota

The Ohio State Board of Education recently granted Lakota Local Schools the 2016 Momentum Award. The annual recognition is granted only to districts that received A’s on every growth measure, or value-added component, included on the latest state report card. Lakota was one of only two school districts in Butler County to receive the Momentum Award. Statewide, only 54 of more than 600 school districts earned the distinction.

According to a letter signed by Ohio Board of Education President Thomas Gunlock, “Your report card shows your pupils enjoyed greater than expected growth in reading and mathematics. Your accomplishment makes you part of a group of districts that is supporting the academic growth of students from every background and ability level. This is especially commendable when your district is operating multiple schools that can have diverse student populations and varying needs and challenges.” Congratulations to the faculty and staff at Lakota! YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program

One out of three U.S. adults has prediabetes and only 10% know they have it. The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps those at a high risk of developing type 2 diabetes adopt and maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating healthier, increasing physical activity and losing a modest amount of weight in order to reduce their chances of developing the disease.

To be eligible for the program, you must be at least 18 years old, overweight (BMI > 25) and at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes indicated by a confirmatory blood value, prediabetes determined by clinical diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes (GDM) during previous pregnancy, or a qualifying risk source. For more information, contact Bridget Behrmann at bbehrmann@gmvymca.org or 513.887.0001. YMCA.org

Mother Teresa Catholic
Elementary School

In January’s issue we told you about all of the great things happening at Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School (MTCES) in Liberty Township. We were so excited to share information about the school that we mistakenly misplaced one of the photos. With sincerest apologies, we wanted to reprint this great photo of two MTCES students.
