Pro Wakeboard Tour
Rides Into West Chester

The Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour, the longest-running professional wakeboard competition, will visit West Chester this summer as part of its 25th-anniversary season. Voice of America MetroPark will host the final stop of the tour on August 12. According to the Butler County Visitors Bureau, the event will bring an estimated economic impact of $150,000 to the region and feature the top 16 professional men wakeboarders in the world competing for the coveted world championship.

In addition to high-flying wakeboard action, the tour will bring one of the hottest up-and-coming sports in North America to West Chester. Wakesurfing—riding the boat’s wake without the help of a towrope—saw an astonishing 30 percent year-over-year growth from 2012 to 2015. The event at VOA will be open to the public with tickets just $5 for each person ages six and up. GetToTheBC.com

Local Elementary School Stock Market Game Teams Win Big

Two of Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School’s (MTCES) Stock Market Game teams won first and second place among all middle school teams in the state of Ohio. First place team Bubble Guppy advanced to the Portfolio Challenge at the University of Cincinnati where they won and received an all-expense paid trip to New York City.

The Stock Market Game is a year-long competition among regional schools using online market simulation allowing students to manage a virtual stock portfolio with real-time data. Junior high math teachers Lauren Austin and Nicole Stewart enroll their pre-algebra and algebra 1 classes in The Stock Market Game, a program offered by the University of Cincinnati Economics Center, at the beginning of the school year. Fourth of July Parade
Historic Fire Truck

Before your fire up the grill and take in the fireworks, stop by the annual Liberty Township Fourth of July Parade, beginning at 10 a.m. at Lakota East High School. If you’ve been to the parade, you’ve probably noticed the historic fire truck that appears in the parade. That same fire engine also carries Santa in the Liberty Center Christmas parade and delivers him for the annual Breakfast With Santa.

What you might not know is that this fire truck was the first one purchased when the Liberty Township Fire Department was first formed, and it was purchased by Fiehrer Motors of Fairfield Township, which has been a staple in our community for 85 years. According to Liberty Township Fire Chief Paul Stumpf, the cab and chassis came from Fiehrer Motors almost 65 years ago. So wear your red, white and blue to the annual parade and be on the lookout for the infamous fire truck. FiehrerMotors.com OH-LibertyTownship.CivicPlus.com

The Spicy Olive Owner Achieves
Expert Recognition

Melanie Cedargren, owner of The Spicy Olive, recently completed her Certification in Sensory Evaluation of Olive Oil at the University of California—Davis Olive Institute. The highly regarded certification gives Cedargren the skills to certify oil as extra virgin olive oil. During the sensory evaluation, a certified person such as Cedargren, can taste and smell an olive oil in order to discern any imperfection that would keep it from being certified as extra virgin olive oil.

Cedargren’s passion for olive oil began after a family vacation to Italy, where she discovered that the olive oils in Italy are fresh. In the U.S., many olive oils purchased from big box grocery stores often sit for a year in a warehouse and lack health benefits and flavor. Cedargren opened The Spicy Olive so people looking to prepare better, healthier meals have the freshest olive oils from around the world. TheSpicyOlive.com
