Broadway In Cincinnati Unveils A Showstopping Season

In New York City’s theater district, the marquis are aglow with displays of the current Broadway shows. One can find the hot new musical just down the block from tried and true favorites. But you don’t have to travel to The Big Apple to see a Broadway show. The Fifth Third Broadway in Cincinnati series, presented by TriHealth, brings some of the best theater right here to Cincinnati.

Wicked: September 13–October 15, 2017

Long before Dorothy arrived, there is another young woman in Oz, born with emerald-green skin. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships—until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.” Wicked is the Broadway sensation that tells the untold story of the Witches of Oz and transfixes audiences with its wildly inventive story and electrifying songs.

Finding Neverland: November 7–19, 2017

Directed by visionary Tony®-winner Diane Paulus and based on the critically-acclaimed Academy Award® winning film, Finding Neverland tells the incredible story behind one of the world’s most beloved characters: Peter Pan. Playwright J.M. Barrie struggles to find inspiration until he meets four young brothers and their beautiful widowed mother. Spellbound by the boys’ enchanting make-believe adventures, he sets out to write a play that will astound London theatergoers.

A Christmas Story: December 5–10, 2017

This new musical based on the classic movie tells the hilarious tale of Ralphie’s desperate quest to ensure the most perfect of gifts ends up under his Christmas tree: an Official Red Ryder® Carbine-Action 200-shot Range Model Air Rifle. A Christmas Story captures holiday wonder with deliciously wicked wit, sure to delight children and grown-ups alike.

Waitress: January 9–21, 2018

This irresistible new hit features original music and lyrics by six-time Grammy® nominee Sara Bareilles and direction by Tony®-winner Diane Paulus. Inspired by Adrienne Shelly’s beloved film, Waitress tells the story of Jenna—a waitress and expert pie maker— who dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town’s new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start.

School of Rock: February 21–March 4, 2018

Based on the hit film, this hilarious new musical follows Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star posing as a substitute teacher who turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. School of Rock features 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber, all the original songs from the movie and musical theater’s first-ever kids rock band playing their instruments live on stage.

Chicago: March 20–25, 2018

As the number one longest-running American musical in Broadway history, Chicago has everything that makes Broadway great: a universal tale of fame, fortune and all that jazz; one show-stopping song after another; and astonishing dancing. This triumphant hit musical is the recipient of six Tony Awards®, two Olivier Awards, a Grammy® and thousands of standing ovations.

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The King and I: April 10–22, 2018

Two worlds collide in the Lincoln Center Theater production of this Rodgers & Hammerstein musical, which tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children. One of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s finest works, The King and I boasts an incredible score with beloved classics.

Disney’s Aladdin: May 29–June 10, 2018

The Book of Mormon: July 31–August 5, 2018

From South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, The Book of Mormon makes its much-awaited return to Cincinnati. This unconventional musical was the winner of nine Tony Awards®, including Best Musical. The Book of Mormon is an outrageous musical comedy that follows the adventures of a mismatched pair of Mormon missionaries, sent halfway across the world to spread their faith.
