Lakota West Senior Elected VP to National Organization

Amitoj Kaur, a senior at Lakota West High School, has been elected the 2018-2019 National Vice President of Membership of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Kaur was one of 10 national officers elected during the 2018 National Leadership Conference this past summer. Being elected a national officer is the highest leadership honor an FCCLA member can achieve.

Along with nine other members of the FCCLA council, Kaur will travel to the FCCLA national headquarters in Virginia this year to attend training and program planning sessions. She will also help set policies and develop future goals for the organization as a committee member of the FCCLA National Board of Directors. During the year, Kaur and the other national officers will represent the organization by leading workshops and giving speeches locally and throughout the country. Kaur is the first Sikh woman and the first person from West Chester to receive this honor.

Administration Facility Planning Underway

Liberty Township is currently underway with planning for a new administration facility that will also include the Butler County Sheriff’s police substation. The new facility will return to 6400 Princeton Road, where a new building will be constructed to replace the former office location (currently serving as the Township’s Meeting Center). The Township’s administrative and police substation operated out of the building on Princeton Road from 1995 to 2016. For the last two years, the Township has been leasing office space at Liberty Centre Drive with plans to build a new facility within four years.

Liberty Township has been working with the local architecture firm MSA on a township facility master plan. MSA is currently working on interior layout design and elevations for the combined administration and police substation facility. Design is expected to wrap up by the end of summer, so the project can go out to bid late 2018 or early 2019. The goal is to occupy the new building by August 2020.

West Chester Academy Offering New Leadership Program

West Chester Academy will launch the Taking Shape™ Star Leadership Program this month, joining a network of studios across North America that offer the national youth leadership training course, which is designed for organizations and studios passionate about growing young leaders through the performing arts. The Dance Competition Team at West Chester Academy will form the nucleus of the program.

West Chester Academy adheres to the philosophy that all the time and effort that goes into perfecting great technical skills must be about something more than just those technical skills. It must also promote personal growth and development in the students as well. This unique program is open to any area students ages 11-18, even those who do not attend West Chester Academy. It is a great vehicle for students to get community service hours as there will be plenty of opportunity for local community service volunteering in addition to classroom style monthly lessons.
