Sample delicious dishes for a good cause

If you love a bowl of cheesy pasta or fresh spaghetti and marinera, you don’t want to miss the second annual Pasta With A Purpose on Thursday, October 18 at Liberty Center. The annual fundraiser benefits the Caring Community Collaborative (C3) of West Chester and Liberty Township while serving up delicious pasta from our area. Guests can enjoy samplings of dishes from local restaurants that specialize in pasta and beyond. Sampling options for beer and wine are also available. In addition to food and beverages, the event offers face painting, balloon animals and games for the kids.

This night of yummy fun benefits C3, which aims to bring diverse sectors of the community together to educate and raise awareness of community-wide concerns, to identify needs, to build responsive partnerships to address and respond to issues, and to advance the quality of life for our community. C3 is funded through donations from interested professionals, businesses, organizations and citizens of the communities it serves. C3 offers unique programs and creates a call to action of community stakeholders around current issues of concern, including drug addiction, homelessness and hunger, veterans’ issues, youth and generational issues, needs of the elderly, and mental health.

One of the restaurants featured at Pasta With A Purpose, Troy’s Café, shares their highly acclaimed mac & cheese recipe. Try the Troy’s Café Five Cheese Mac ‘n Cheese, winner of Jungle Jim’s Big Cheese Best Mac ‘n Cheese Award, along with the 2015 Ohio Winter Food Festival Best Entree.

Troy’s Café Five Cheese Mac ‘n Cheese

Ingredients:

4 cups heavy whipping cream

4 oz. shredded cheddar

4 oz. shredded mozzarella and provolone blend

2 oz. shredded parmesan cheese

2 oz. shredded smoked mozzarella cheese

1 Tbsp. salt

1 tsp. granulated garlic

2 Tbsp. of corn starch

¼ cup of cold water

16 oz. of penne pasta (mini penne if you can find it)

Directions:

In a sauce pan slowly warm the cream until it comes to a simmer. In a separate small bowl mix your corn starch and cold water with a spoon or fork until the corn starch is completely dissolved in the water. While whisking the cream, add the corn starch/water mixture to thicken the sauce. Slowly add all the cheese while continuing to whisk. When the cheese is completely incorporated into the cream add your salt and garlic. Set aside to cool. 

Cook the pasta in lightly salted water; drain, rinse and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl add the pasta. Pour the cheese sauce over the pasta and mix with a spoon until completely coated. Transfer the creamy pasta into a casserole dish.

Topping:

4 oz. shredded parmesan cheese

8 oz. Italian bread crumbs

¼ cup olive oil

Mix all the topping ingredients together in a bowl and completely cover the creamy pasta dish with it. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-55 minutes. The sides should start to bubble over and the topping should get golden brown.

Add grilled chicken or other protein of choice for a complete meal.
